If you are an author, and you would like me to illustrate your children's picture book, the first step is a hand drawn sketch, otherwise known as a 'book dummy'. It is generally a 32 page black and white drawing that serves as a proposal for the full color illustrations. Here are some examples from a recent book dummy commission that I completed for a client.
